Has anyone heard about the kharoney who wants to make khichdee and is short of salt. Her neighbour the crow has a whole nest made of salt but is too stingy to lend her any. The kharoney (as my grand mother tells me) swallows her tears of indignation and returns to say her evening prayers. Lo and behold it starts raining and the crow's nest is melted. He begs for shelter and the kharoney, large hearted and forgiving that she is(and I fear at this point in the story set the germs of the 'disease to please' in my g/mother and me) lets him come in.
When I narrate this story to my niece and nephews I make the crow 'over stay' his welcome and extend never ending demands which the kharoney initially fulfils but finally tells the crow to amend his bad habits or pack his bags and stay in the rain!!
